I deleted Make sure you're satisfied with the change. The final step frees up the disk space, but you won't be able to roll back once it is done. Now, turn it back no so that you have the ability to roll back using system restore for future changes. I know some one will comment that is nothing because 3TB drives are cheap today, however 25GB is a considerable waste space on a SSD system and wasted time and space on every set of backup you make.
Long ago I learned to at least leave the last previous map on the computer. In the past I would remove the previous version and I had a problem where MapSource could not see the newest map. But maybe my way to delete is different from yours, I use REVO uninstaller and it might have been a bit too aggressive deleting some files.
This is why you need almost double the free OS drive disk space of a map to do an install. Garmin Express should give you the option to clean them out, imo. I just went through the whole twisted process yet again with Is there a link to where these unneeded files reside on a Mac? For those of us who have a laptop with a SSD, disk space is precious and if we can purge several gig that doesn't impact BaseCamp it would be very helpful. I do use Garmin MapManager to delete the previous map versions once I'm comfortable that BaseCamp is fine with the current?
Do they? I use Garmin Express and found every bit of temporary files from past downloads retained. I am not sure how the update software on Mac handles the temporary files after you're done downloading.
Look in the BaseCamp, then locate where the map is and start approaching that folder. Don't delete that folder.
Crawl up a few levels and see if you can find a folder beneath Garmin called downloads or similar. You could also try searching for recently crated files over MB to hunt it down. Make sure you have invisible folders and such visible. If the system didn't purge temporary files, the download folder contains the two sets of files one of them for the unit, and one set for the computer. There should be another set in the folder designated by the BaseCamp and this one shoudld only be 3GB.
This one's all you need to keep. Although this is probably not for everyone. As we have discussed in other threads, Windows 10 is doing its thing in spite of what the user wants to do! That's exactly why I learned and now use this method, if anything goes wrong from the beginning up until the end with either Garmin Express, your computer or whatever else at least it won't brick the unit.
Glad you figured it out. You just gave me more reasons for not sic upgrading to Win I started garmin express and took long. I thought something was wrong, but after a while the message that the gps was updated.
I will stick with Windows 7 for a little longer. Log In Sign Up. Home » Garmin talk. Login or register to post comments.
